Natural Remedies for Curing Cystitis

Cystitis is one of the most common diseases found in women. It refers to the inflammation of the bladder. This disease is not so dangerous but if not treated within proper time, can lead to further complications. In some cases cystitis may also be associated with kidney troubles.

The main symptoms of cystitis are burning on urination and continual urge to void. There may be a feeling of pain in the lower abdomen and pelvis. The urine may contain blood or pus and may become dark, thick and stingy with unpleasant odor. In the acute stages there may be a rise in the body temperature. Chronic stage is similar to acute stage only with one difference that the temperature of the body does not rise but indicates a process of deterioration.

The common causes of cystitis are infections in other parts adjacent to the bladder such as the urethra, kidneys and the vagina. Severe constipation may also be responsible for causing cystitis. Other causes include presence of kidney stones, childbirth injuries and major surgical procedures within the pelvis which may lower the resistance of the bladder wall and lead to the development of cystitis.

Nature Cure for Cystitis: The treatment for acute stage of cystitis should commence by putting the patient on the fast of water for about three days if there is fever. In the absence of fever the patient should take raw vegetable juices, especially carrot juice diluted with water should be taken at an interval of two and a half hours. All solid foods should be stopped by the patient. This is necessary to eliminate the toxins from the body and promote healing and repair. Proper bed rest should also be taken by the patient at this time.

During this period the pelvis can be immersed in hot water in order to relieve pain. Due to this there is gradual reduction of the inflammation and the temperature also gets back to normal. For relieving the pelvic congestion application of cold compresses to the abdomen is also very beneficial. However proper care should be taken to see that the compresses do not cause chilling.

The patient should thereafter take a diet consisting of only ripe acid fruits such as apples, peach, pears, grapes, melon or any other fruit available during the season.

The patient may gradually embark upon a well balanced diet consisting of vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds and fruits. However excessive use of salt should be avoided as salt disturbs the balance of electrolytes and tends to raise blood pressure which is frequently already raised in kidney troubles.

Foods such as refined carbohydrates, fish, meat and other fleshy foods should be avoided by the patient suffering from cystitis as these foods may lead to gastritis, colitis and other related troubles.

In case of chronic cystitis the patient may adopt a schedule of restricted diet for about nine days in order to cleanse the blood and other tissues and at the same time provide natural vitamins and minerals to the body. In this regimen the patient can take a glass of unsweetened lemon juice after getting up in the morning. Breakfast should include fresh fruits such as apples, grapes, peach, pears, pineapple and a glass of buttermilk, sweetened with little honey. Tender coconut water may be taken in the mid morning before lunch. Raw vegetable salad of cabbage, carrot and beetroot mixed with a teaspoon of honey and curd and followed by a ripe apple may be taken during lunch. One cup of unsweetened grape juice may be taken in the mid afternoon. Dinner should include a salad of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables. Before going to bed, a glass of mixed beetroot and carrot juice may be taken.

The patient should thereafter switch to a well balanced diet consisting of vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains and seeds. Even if there is slight recovery, it is advisable for the patient to live on vegetable juices for two days every month. It is also necessary to continue the water treatments to get cured soon.

Thus we can say that natural remedies have been fond to be very effective and useful in the treatment and cure of cystitis and other related disorders.
